Postecoglou looks ridiculous as Tottenham player makes brutally honest admission
Ange Postecoglou has been left red-faced after his nonchalant reaction to Tottenham needing extra time to beat Tamworth in the FA Cup.
Spurs avoided a catastrophic FA Cup upset on Sunday (12 January) as the visiting players were abysmal at The Lamb Ground and relied on a Nathan Muya Tshikuna own goal to break the deadlock after 100 minutes, before Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson rounded off the scoring.
While little nuances such as kit clashes with the referee were brought to attention, Archie Gray embarrassed Postecoglou live on ITV Sport (12 January, 3:26pm) with a more accurate representation of the result.
After Postecoglou had attempted to play down the magnitude of being taken to extra time by a non-league side, a brutally honest Gray said: “It’s a credit to them that they took us to extra time, especially being where they are in the league.
“It’s definitely a credit to them, but we weren’t good enough for 90 minutes, and quite a few of us weren’t at the races today.”
Ange Postecoglou deluded after Tottenham survive FA Cup scare
Although Postecoglou remained composed on the touchline in Staffordshire, his job well and truly hung in the balance for 90 minutes.
The Australian would not have been able to talk his way out of an FA Cup exit against National League opposition with Daniel Levy.
Nevertheless, Spurs secured progression to the fourth round, but what was supposed to be a reasonably routine encounter for the visitors proved to be a difficult challenge.
While players such as Timo Werner proved they have no long-term future in North London after struggling against players who are not full-time professionals, the 90 minutes played out at The Lamb Ground is a poor look for Postecoglou.

Despite having one foot in the Carabao Cup final after the 1-0 win against Liverpool in the semi-final on Wednesday (8 January), his position at the helm is in the balance and will remain so until he delivers consistent results.
With the North London derby clash up next on 15 January, should Tottenham play like they did against Tamworth, Arsenal will surely spell the end of Postecoglou in the Premier League.
