Postecoglou latest: Tottenham boss in contention for Man City job after bombshell

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is in the running to be the next Manchester City manager.

Pep Guardiola’s Man City have endured a horror season and the Spaniard is under increasing pressure at the Etihad after a poor run of results.

Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham is also under the microscope after a run of just three wins in 13 Premier League matches.

However, a new update may give the Australian a bigger opportunity despite his Spurs woes.

Manchester City coould turn to Tottenham manager Postecoglou

After Manchester City were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on 19 February, odds have emerged on the Australian taking over at the Etihad Stadium.

The former Celtic manager is 10/1 to take over from the former Barcelona manager with Paddy Power after the dismal exit.

Guardiola is 1/10 to remain in his post with Xabi Alonso the 6/1 favourite to replace his fellow Spaniard if he does leave.

Postecoglou should not be hired by Manchester City

Postecoglou has given no indication that Manchester City should make their move and appoint him to replace Guardiola.

His Tottenham side have endured a miserable campaign and while some of that is down to a brutal injury crisis and a lack of investment from the board, he also has to take some blame.

It could be argued that his intense training regime and refusal to abandon his stubborn tactical principles have only exacerbated the situation.

The Citizens should give Guardiola the chance to turn the chaos around rather than taking a risk and hiring an outsider, especially one who is struggling with a team that is not as good as the defending Premier League champions.

It remains an unlikely possibility despite the odds falling sharply after City’s European exit, as Postecoglou would struggle to implement his methods with higher-quality players and could alienate them pretty quickly given his struggles in North London.

He does not deserve to fall into a better club after a miserable campaign in N17, he is more likely to be sacked by Spurs than he is to be hired by Manchester City.
