Postecoglou gives update on Son and Maddison ahead of Tottenham v Liverpool
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou said he will have to make a late check on the fitness of captain Son Heung-min and influential playmaker James Maddison ahead of his side’s clash with Liverpool
The 58-year-old was speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Premier League showdown with the Reds at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (30 September).
Postecoglou, whose side are unbeaten in the league with 14 points from six games, said the influential duo had a “fragmented” week of training in the build-up to facing Jurgen Klopp’s men.

“Madders and Sonny trained today but will see how they are after training, both got through everything we needed them to get through, but it will depend on how they pull up,” Postecoglou said, in quotes reported by Football London (29 September).
“It’s been a fragmented week of training.”
Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King tells Tottenham News:
“That would really throw some pressure on Tottenham. They are the two who are probably the quality in the team at the moment. I am hoping that they are going to play, that is for sure.
“Whether he is saying that to add a little bit of a twist for Liverpool, the way they are looking at the game and assessing the side, it would certainly perk Liverpool right up if they don’t play.

“Son and Maddison are probably the best two players in the squad, so that would certainly put pressure on the players starting if they are both out. It would be a big disappointment for the supporters as well. Everyone is anticipating a really good game, so we shall see what happens tomorrow.”
In other Tottenham news, Bryan King has urged the Premier League to make some changes to the way VAR operates.
