Postecoglou drops injury bombshell ahead of Tottenham v Man United

Ange Postecoglou has ruled one of his star players out of the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

After what has been a dismal campaign, the Europa League final is nearly here, and Tottenham will not need anyone to tell them how important it is that they bring the trophy back to North London.

Not only does their season hinge on that success, but the same can be said for the future of Postecoglou, who looks almost nailed on to leave if they fail to win in Bilbao.

Optimism levels were high when several injured stars were seen boarding the flight to Spain, but Postecoglou has since ruled one of their key players out of the clash.

Tottenham handed midfield blow ahead of Europa League final

Injuries have been the story of the season for Tottenham, and through heavy rotation, Postecoglou has tried to reduce the risk of facing even more for the final.

Brennan Johnson was involved in a scare the other week, but many Spurs fans thought that they would be boosted by the return of Lucas Bergvall after he was seen with the squad ahead of their flight.

However, Postecoglou has now ruled Bergvall out of the game, as relayed via Football London (20 May).

Speaking via his press conference, Postecoglou said: “Pretty much the same as last week. Lucas [Bergvall] isn’t available. Pape [Sarr] is fine.”

Bergvall’s absence will definitely be a blow, but the availability of Pape Matar Sarr should serve as a boost for Tottenham.

Tottenham need others to step up in Bergvall absence

Bergvall has been immense this season, but if Spurs are to find success in Bilbao, they are going to have to do it without him.

His energy and drive in midfield completely change games, and without him, Postecoglou doesn’t have many options to replace those attributes.

However, if there was ever a time for someone else to step up in his absence, it’s in the Europa League final, with a huge day ahead.

These are the games where legends are made, and someone can write their name into the history books of North London on Wednesday evening.
