Postecoglou dealt injury blow as Tottenham defender suffers fresh setback
Ange Postecoglou will be without several Tottenham defenders against Manchester City.
Postecoglou’s side will welcome Manchester City to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday (26 February) as the home side go in search of their fourth Premier League win on the bounce.
Ahead of the clash, there have been calls for Spurs fans to once again stage protests in North London, just as they did ahead of the 1-0 Premier League win over Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday 16 February.
However, after Spurs’ 4-1 Premier League win against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday (22 February), the mood is likely to be slightly more positive heading into this clash.
Son Heung-min looked back to his best against the Tractor Boys, twice setting up Brennan Johnson, while in-form Djed Spence and Dejan Kulusevski both got on the scoresheet too.
Therefore, the players will be full of confidence heading into the clash with City. However, Postecoglou has been dealt one fresh blow ahead of the game after one of his defenders suffered an injury setback.

Ben Davies unavailable for Tottenham v Manchester City
Speaking ahead of the clash with City, Postecoglou provided an injury update on his squad.
While the Australian did confirm that he had no fresh injury concerns from the win over Ipswich, he also had one negative to report, as he said [via Tottenham Hotspur, 25 February], “We were hoping maybe Ben [Davies] would be ready for this game, but he won’t make it. We’ve got a seven-day break (after City), so, he’ll miss out.”
Injured Tottenham defenders | Expected return |
Cristian Romero | 6 March |
Micky van de Ven | 6 March |
Ben Davies | 6 March |
Radu Drăgușin | Next season |
Meanwhile, Postecoglou provided a fresh update on Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, suggesting that they were on track to return for the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 first-leg clash with AZ Alkmaar at the AFAS Stadion on Thursday 6 March.

Tottenham should be confident ahead of clash v Manchester City
While Davies’ setback is frustrating, Spurs should still be confident of picking up all three points against Pep Guardiola’s side on Wednesday.
Davies is a player with plenty of experience, and that experience would have been useful to have in the squad, especially as it seemed as though Postecoglou expected the Welshman to be fit.

However, with the other players who have returned from injury, Spurs should have more than enough to beat an underperforming City side who are low on confidence.
