Postecoglou blasted over ‘extravagant’ contradiction at Tottenham
Ange Postecoglou has been slammed by Andy Dunn after contradictory comments on the Tottenham fixture congestion.
Spurs will have played nine games in December by the end of the month ending this period with a clash against Wolves on Sunday (29 December).
The Australian head coach has been left frustrated by this schedule as he said: “We all know how it works. There’s very little say we have, apart from accepting the fact this is going to be our schedule.
“We all know how it works. We are at the behest of higher authorities and broadcasters when it comes to fixturing.”
There is a case to be had by Sunday Mirror journalist Dunn (page 63) has slammed the 59-year-old for these comments and how contradictory they truly are.
He said: “He [Postecoglou] is right of course. But what he does not mention is that those ‘higher authorities’ are the employers of Postecoglou and his fellow managers.
“The blame for what Ange [Postecoglou] and the rest would see as an unhelpful fixture calendar lies with club owners and their chief executives, bosses such as Daniel Levy. They are the ones who have sold the game to subscription television companies.
“But they will probably argue that they needed to sell football’s soul to TV to pay for the extravagant wages earned by the likes of Postecoglou.”
Ange Postecoglou in Tottenham fixture contradiction
There is no doubt that the number of fixtures ahead of the new year has had a negative effect on the squad in N17.
This has seen injuries take their toll which may have had less of an impact if games had been spread out more across the festive period.
With Micky Van de Ven and Cristian Romero both out, Archie Gray has been forced to play centre back while Fraser Forster has started in goal to replace the injured Guglielmo Vicario.
These issues have certainly caused problems for Postecoglou but at the end of the day it is the same situation for every Premier League side and some have dealt with it better than others.

Over the festive period, every side has had fixtures moved due to TV rights but have dealt with it and carried on as is typical of the Christmas and New Year period.
Moaning about this to the press won’t have any sort of positive effect on his side who need to focus on getting back to winning ways.
