Pedro Porro shares how Postecoglou responded to anti-Tottenham meme
Tottenham ended their 17-year trophy drought in Bilbao when they beat Manchester United in the Europa League final.
Spurs fans had been waiting for this moment for years, and as the final whistle blew, a wave of relief swept through North London.
Ange Postecoglou and his players knew exactly what they had achieved that night – delivering silverware and finally ending the jokes that labelled them a “banter club”.

Pedro Porro credits fans for Europa League success
Pedro Porro was one of Tottenham’s standout performers in the final, playing a key role in their Europa League triumph.
In The Guardian (3 June), Sid Lowe reported on how the right-back revealed the squad drew motivation from the fans’ long-standing suffering, using it as fuel to finally deliver silverware.
“The coach said: ‘Yes, we’re Tottenham. We have to believe we’re a big team. Now people have to respect Tottenham a bit more because they’re Europa League champions’,” said Porro, sharing what Postecoglou told the squad after seeing a meme about Spurs.
“The season had been really bad in the Premier League, and winning a European title brought such happiness. The fans had suffered, we had suffered too. But it’s not how it starts, it’s how it ends.
“It’s more than 40 years since a European trophy. People’s reaction was lovely. When you get on the bus and go round London, you get a feel for how important it is. You change families’ lives. They had suffered. We had suffered too inside, day by day.”

Managerial decision looms with season fast approaching
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou could face the axe soon as chairman David Levy edges closer to a decision.
Within the Spurs squad, doubts are growing over whether the Australian will stay on for next season.
The club desperately needed a major trophy, but finishing 17th in the Premier League was a massive disappointment for Tottenham. If Postecoglou is sacked, Thomas Frank is widely tipped as his replacement.
Spurs fans are increasingly frustrated with the delay in making decisions, especially as rival clubs continue strengthening their squads.
Rumours are swirling about potential summer signings, with Leroy Sane among the options linked to the club.
However, major transfer decisions are on hold until the new manager is appointed. This is a key decision that could impact the club’s next couple of years.
