Pochettino favourite for shock Tottenham appointment as compensation claim made

Mauricio Pochettino has emerged as the new frontrunner for the Tottenham job if Ange Postecoglou is to be sacked.

Pressure is constantly growing on Postecoglou to keep his job at Tottenham as a result of the troubled season that Spurs are enduring.

Exits from both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup have left Tottenham with little chance of success this season, with only the Europa League remaining to remedy that.

It’s hard to see a route back for Postecoglou, having already seemingly lost the trust of the fanbase, with Pochettino the new favourite to take over if the Australian were to be axed.

Compensation claim made at Tottenham as Pochettino emerges as favourite

Postecoglou is certainly hanging on by a thread at Spurs, with many surprised his sacking hasn’t yet arrived, but the compensation required by Tottenham could be part of the reason a decision is yet to be made.

Ian Darke, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, said: “Postecoglou is being kept in the job by the fact they’re still in Europe. There might be a compensation issue as well on the club’s side.”

Should that compensation be sorted, Spurs will have a decision to make and when they do, it appears that Pochettino could be in line for a shock return.

According to the latest odds from Bet Victor, Pochettino is the new favourite at odds of 7/2 to become the next Tottenham manager, with names such as Thomas Frank and Andoni Iraola also in the running.

Pochettino’s odds have plummeted from 40/1 at one stage, making this an interesting development.

Ange Postecoglou’s time is surely up at Tottenham

Given the wretched season at hand, it’s quite remarkable that Postecoglou has been afforded as much time as he has when taking into account the lack of time other managers have had at Tottenham.

There have been no signs of improvement at Tottenham, and while there has to be some sympathy for the Australian given the injury situation, the regression is occurring largely down to his inability to adapt to it.

Pochettino’s return to Tottenham would be met with open arms, and if Spurs are to feel the full impact of that, it needs to happen soon so that the Argentine has time to prepare for the new campaign.

Tottenham host Manchester United in the coming days, and a failure to achieve victory could put the final nail in the coffin for Postecoglou.
