Tottenham may demand ‘Huge compensation’ from Man City amid Postecoglou update

Pep Guardiola is facing hard times at Manchester City and Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has been linked as a candidate to replace him.

The Australian himself is struggling at Tottenham after an impressive first campaign and a trophy-laden spell at Celtic.

He won five trophies in Scotland before moving to North London with Daniel Levy viewing him as the ideal replacement for Antonio Conte who was sacked in March 2023.

Ange Postecoglou to leave Tottenham for Manchester City?

While Pep has not yet been sacked or even close to the sack, he is currently facing the lowest point of his managerial career.

The recent Champions League humiliation at the hands of Real Madrid means that there’s a very good chance of them ending the campaign without a trophy.

While he does have plenty of goodwill in the bank, the betting markets have presented odds for a replacement.

Postecoglou, who himself is proving himself at Spurs, is given 10/1 odds to succeed the Spaniard at the Manchester outfit, per PaddyPower.

If he is to leave, Manchester City will have to pay Tottenham a huge fee in compensation, given Postecoglou has nearly two and a half years left to run on his contract.

Ange Postecoglou still seems to be battling the sack

With Tottenham languishing in 12th place in the Premier League, the heat is intensifying on Postecoglou.

Their inconsistent form has frustrated fans and raised questions about his leadership, especially with a daunting fixture list looming.

An upcoming clash against reigning champions Manchester City on 26 February poses a significant test—anything less than a competitive showing could amplify calls for change.

On top of that, Spurs face two critical Europa League matches against AZ Alkmaar that could define their European campaign.

Failure to advance in Europe, coupled with a heavy defeat to City, might push the club’s patience to their breaking point.

Postecoglou’s high-pressing style and attacking philosophy was heralded upon his arrival, but results have not consistently matched the promise, leaving the club far from the top-four aspirations they hold.

The board has a history of swift decisions, with managers like Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Conte were sacked for less and Ange’s job could hinge on these next few games.
