Porro has been on international duty after an arduous season with Tottenham, starting and assisting in Spain’s epic 5-4 win over France in the Nations League semi-final on Thursday (5 June).

The 24-year-old has been kept abreast with proceedings back at Hotspur Way, recently backing Ange Postecoglou to remain at Tottenham.

And a major bit of news has prompted Porro to release an emotional statement.

Porro thanks Postecoglou after news of his sacking was confirmed

The discourse surrounding the North London club in the off-season has been dominated by the future of Postecoglou, with Tottenham confirming that they have parted ways with the manager on Friday (6 June).

This will come as a blow to many Tottenham stars. However, Porro, who was Postecoglou’s most-used player this season, appears particularly upset by the news.

The right-back was only absent for one game all season and was an ever-present for all of Postecoglou’s biggest games, despite the emergence of Djed Spence.

His manager waved away questions over the defender’s defensive flaws on numerous occasions and was rewarded with excellent performances, especially in the latter stages of the UEFA Europa League.

As such, Porro quickly took to Instagram (6 June) to express his gratitude to Postecoglou for their two years spent together at Spurs.

Under an image of the two of them sharing an embrace, the post read, “Thank you for everything, boss.

“For mentoring me early on, helping me settle into the club, and trusting me out on the pitch. I’ll always be grateful for the way you led us, defended us, and kept us going through all the highs and lows.

“Above everything, you gave us one of the greatest moments in the club’s history, and for that, you’ll always be celebrated. Wishing you all the very best, boss”.

Porro appears to be disappointed by the decision to sack Postecoglou

Postecoglou’s relationship with players could pose Spurs problems

Porro was by no means the only player to have a close bond with Postecoglou, with captain Son Heung-min one of the public voices of support for the now-departed Australian.

Son’s loyalty lies deeply with Tottenham. However, that is not the case with players like Cristian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur, who could now be more likely to depart.

There will also be added pressure for Postecoglou’s replacement to make a good impression with the playing squad and get a tune out of a team that ultimately did not support the change.
