Paul Merson shares scenario that’d ‘shock’ him in Chelsea v Tottenham
Tottenham are set to take on bitter rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, in yet another pivotal game for Ange Postecoglou.
Postecoglou is under serious pressure as Spurs manager after a dismal campaign, and the Premier League season is already a write-off heading into the final months of the season.
Tottenham’s main focus now is the Europa League, but they still need to navigate several tricky Premier League games, which now hold little meaning beyond pride.
While Spurs find themselves with little to play for in 14th place, Chelsea have limped into fourth, but face a tough battle on their hands to seal a Champions League spot, and this fixture is a must-win one for the home side.

Paul Merson predicts Chelsea to beat Tottenham
With a clear difference in motivation levels between the two sides heading into the game, former Chelsea star Paul Merson has now predicted the outcome of the match.
“This is Chelsea’s main game of the season. It’s definitely high stakes but still a fixture they are expected to win! We always wait for Tottenham to come good, saying stuff like, ‘Oh, they will get better when they have all their players fit’, but it never happens!” Merson told Sportskeeda (March 31).

“Chelsea have not been great this season, but I’d be shocked if they don’t win this game. It’s a must-win game for them too.”

Tottenham can ruin Chelsea’s Champions League hopes
Although the Europa League is now the primary focus, Tottenham fans would still like to see their team spoil Chelsea’s evening, and their top-four hopes.
Manchester City and Newcastle are hot on Chelsea’s trail, and should the Blues drop points at home to Spurs, it could massively hit their chances of finishing in a Champions League spot.
Spurs are badly out of form, and Chelsea have won four of their last five matches in all competitions.
It will be another tough fixture for Postecoglou’s side, but they will need to kick-start their form if they are to stand a chance in the Europa League.
Spurs will face Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt over two legs in the quarter-finals, in what is truly their last chance of salvaging this season.
While the trip to Chelsea holds little weight in comparison to the Frankfurt tie, winning away at Stamford Bridge could help spark Spurs back into life, with little in recent performances to suggest that Tottenham can overcome the German team.
