Paul Merson namedrops Manchester United in ‘great’ Tottenham Premier League prediction
Tottenham have enjoyed a very positive start to life under Thomas Frank, seamlessly transitioning to the Dane’s style of play.
Spurs sit third in the Premier League with 10 points from the opening five fixtures and Frank’s side will be confident in adding three more as they host bottom-of-the-table Wolves this weekend.
Last time out in the Premier League, Spurs had to fight back from a two-goal deficit to salvage a point on the road at Brighton.
Tottenham beat Doncaster Rovers 3-0 in the EFL Cup in midweek, though, to leave Spurs in good spirits ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Wolves.
Spurs qualified for the Champions League via their excellent Europa League triumph, but many expect them to be challenging back towards the top end of the league table this time around following their promising start.

Merson makes Tottenham Champions League prediction
Tottenham ended last season in a hugely disappointing 17th place under Ange Postecoglou with the domestic campaign all but forgotten about while Thursday night European action took centre stage.
This season, however, Paul Merson is backing the Lilywhites to soar up the table under the new coaching regime.
Sky Sports pundit Merson wrote for Sportskeeda: “I would say a top-five finish would be great for Tottenham this season. They are truly capable of achieving it too.
“Liverpool and Arsenal can take care of themselves, so there are three more spots left. I won’t put Manchester United in that race, Aston Villa won’t be able to catch up unless they really get going.”
Despite both enduring a difficult time of it last year, Manchester United have fallen below Spurs in Merson’s opinion as the competition ramps up for those all-important Champions League spots.

Vicario saving Spurs
Thomas Frank has seamlessly made the step up from Brentford to Tottenham and has had his side playing his way from the off.
This change in style has been centred around protecting Guglielmo Vicario’s goal as the Italian shot-stopper has kept three clean sheets in the league so far.
However, he is doing more than his fair share in keeping the opposition out, despite Vicario’s blunder in Tottenham’s draw with Brighton last weekend.
Vicario’s Volume
- Second among all goalkeepers in the league for amount of saves per 90 (3.8)
- Third for saves from shots in the box per 90 (2.8)
- Second for number of clean sheets
Frank has tightened up Spurs’ defence in comparison to what it was like last season but Vicario’s stunning performances shouldn’t go unnoticed and a slight drop off may see Spurs start to leak a few more goals.
Wolves at home presents a solid opportunity to get back to winning ways in the league despite the Black Country side’s win over Everton in the EFL Cup in midweek.
Frank and his forward line should see this as an opportunity to get among the goals, with Xavi Simons taking some criticism last time out against Brighton.
