Paul Merson drops Postecoglou sack verdict in Tottenham v Leicester prediction
Paul Merson has urged Tottenham to give Ange Postecoglou more time as manager even though he predicts more difficulty to come.
The North London outfit have struggled throughout the season so far and find themselves sitting 15th in the Premier League after losing 3-2 at Everton last Sunday (19 January).
As a result, there has been plenty of speculation surrounding Postecoglou’s job at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with results needing to pick up fast.
However, writing for Sportskeeda (23 January) former Arsenal player and now Sky Sports pundit Merson has predicted another bleak afternoon for Spurs as he said: “Considering how Spurs play, Jamie Vardy can cause them a lot of problems in this game.
“If Leiceser can ride their luck and Tottenham have an off day, even if it’s just in front of goal like against Ipswich earlier this season, they have a chance. If Leicester and Vardy can trouble Tottenham with their counter-attack, we might witness a result that will see the cat among the pigeons.
“I hope Ange Postecoglou doesn’t leave. If you take Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate out of Liverpool or William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes out of Arsenal, those teams will face problems. I know Micky van de Ven and Christian Romero are not considered to be at that level just yet, but Spurs are a different team when they both play.
“Bit unlucky with their injuries, so I would like Postecoglou to get another year in this job. Prediction 1-2.”
Ange Postecoglou needs to improve things at Tottenham
There is no denying that Tottenham have struggled with injuries this term, which has certainly not helped his side’s efforts on the pitch and therefore, you can understand why there is some sympathy towards him and a sentiment that he should not be sacked yet.
That being said, the position that the Lilywhites find themselves in is unacceptable by their standards and that is the result of half a season’s work rather than just the impact of injury.

The North London outfit have been inconsistent throughout the campaign and you could argue that if the Australian was willing to adapt his style of play to suit the players he had available then they would not be losing games in the way they are.
After losing against the Toffees last week, if Spurs do lose against Leicester on Sunday (26 January) there will surely be some worries swirling around the manager’s head regarding his future.
