Ex-Premier League boss blames something Levy did for Postecoglou losing his job

Ange Postecoglou may have fulfilled his promise of a trophy at Tottenham, but that was not enough to save his standing.

The Australian followed the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, who were employed to do just that, but ultimately failed.

Daniel Levy talked about all things Tottenham in an interview with Gary Neville, which has sparked a fierce debate.

Now, former Premier League manager Alan Pardew has named a significant reason for Postecoglou’s failure as the reaction to his words rages on.

Why Postecoglou was let down at Tottenham

Postecoglou was a popular man within the Tottenham dressing room, but that was not enough to keep his job.

The 59-year-old followed in the footsteps of managerial greatness, but made his own history in North London.

His first season was one of optimism and a clear identity as the Lilywhites thrived during the first half of the season.

During the Australian’s tenure, Tottenham supporters made their feelings clear about Levy by holding protests against him.

However, many remained behind Postecoglou despite their woeful Premier League form, with injuries hampering their progress.

Now, Pardew has essentially heaped blame on Spurs’ hierarchy for Postecoglou’s shortcomings while on talkSPORT (5 August, 7:02am).

Pardew said: “I was really disappointed last year with their transfer window when they brought in the four or five young players who looked far too short in terms of making an impact last year.

“And Ange suffered for that and lost his job, with 22 defeats or whatever it was, but this window it looks a lot better.”

What transfer business did Spurs complete last summer?

Last summer, Spurs did indeed sign a host of young players, including Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray, and Wilson Odobert.

Amid Tottenham’s injury crisis, Bergvall and Gray benefited from increased playing time and did their reputations no harm.

As for Odobert, he suffered a serious hamstring injury, which means his singing cannot yet be judged.

The big name arrival last year was Dominic Solanke, but he underwhelmed with just nine Premier League goals.

Perhaps Pardew is right about the number of young signings, but in the long run, they seem to be worthy additions.
