No one wins after what Tottenham fans did to Brennan Johnson in loss vs Newcastle
Tottenham fans were not happy with their team’s performance against Newcastle, with Brennan Johnson in particular at the centre of frustrations.
Thomas Frank‘s Tottenham lost 2-0 to Newcastle at St James’ Park on Wednesday night in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, with the Magpies advancing to the quarter-finals.
Antonin Kinsky had a poor game for Tottenham, as the backup goalkeeper will have only harmed his playing chances further.
Johnson was urged to start against Newcastle, and after Frank put his trust in the forward, the Tottenham fans made their feelings clear on his performance.

Brennan Johnson was sarcastically cheered off by Spurs fans
Johnson made a positive start to life under Frank after he scored in both of the Lilywhites’ first two Premier League games.
Since then, Johnson has been on a downward slope, with a lack of game time, and trust shown in him by Frank.
- Since August, Johnson has managed just five starts for Spurs
- Johnson failed to complete any of his four crosses against Newcastle
- The Welshman only completed 47% of his passes accurately in Newcastle’s half, according to Sofascore
- He was the lowest-rated player who started for Tottenham with 6.1
According to journalist Ryan Taylor, cheers from the travelling Tottenham support came when Johnson’s name was read out over the tannoy at St. James’ Park.
What Johnson has done in the past with criticism will make for an interesting couple of weeks ahead.
Tottenham will now get the best or worst version of Johnson
Last season, Johnson faced backlash online over performances, which prompted the winger to remove his presence on all social media platforms.
The move was a good decision from Johnson, as after that, the forward went on his best goalscoring run in a Tottenham shirt.
Now, after limited game time and criticism by the fans, Johnson may have a similar response by letting the talking do the work on the field.
However, there is also a possibility that the cheers may have knocked his confidence, which won’t help anybody in a Tottenham persuasion.
