Newcastle make offer to Amanda Staveley amid major Tottenham negotiations
Amanda Staveley has remained involved at the top level of football as speculation continues over the ownership of Tottenham Hotspur.
Staveley played a key role in the transformational Middle Eastern takeovers of both Manchester City and the Magpies in 2008 and 2021 respectively, but controversially departed Newcastle United last summer.
Spurs fans are no strangers to ownership controversy amid the growing sentiment that Daniel Levy’s time is up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Staveley being one of his potential successors.
Tottenham’s dire Premier League season has only seen the discourse surrounding Levy and Joe Lewis’ ownership – yielding a single trophy in 24 years – worsen, with tensions rising in North London.

Newcastle gesture made after Amanda Staveley Tottenham talks
Unlike Tottenham, who were routed 4-0 by Liverpool in their semi-final second leg earlier this month, Staveley’s former club Newcastle are heading for the EFL Cup Final at Wembley, to face Liverpool.
Tottenham shareholder | Shares breakdown |
ENIC International Limited | 86.58 per cent (Levy family 29.88 per cent / Joe Lewis 70.12 per cent) |
Other investors | 13.42 per cent |
The Sun reported in their print edition (13 March, page 47) that Newcastle have invited Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi to attend Sunday’s final, at the behest of board member Jamie Reuben.
Staveley and Ghodoussi sold their six per cent ownership stake in the Magpies to the Reuben family and Saudi Arabia’s public investment fund, but Newcastle are keen to show that they remain on good terms.
Since leaving St. James’ Park last summer, Staveley has been working alongside Qatari investors over buying a stake in Tottenham, with Sunday’s final a timely reminder of what Spurs frequently miss out on.

Tottenham to be encouraged by Amanda Staveley influence
While there’s no guarantees that Staveley coming on board at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will mean the immediate exit of Levy and ENIC, Spurs fans will point to the impact made in her time at Newcastle.
Staveley is set to appear at the Magpies’ second EFL Cup Final in the last three years since playing a significant role in their takeover by the Saudi PiF, and there will be hope of similar results at Tottenham.
Spurs’ last Wembley appearance came in the 2021 EFL Cup Final, but any hope of lifting their first silverware since 2008 were arguably sabotaged by Levy sacking Jose Mourinho just six days prior.
Levy’s tenure has meant stagnation, more so than success, for far too long now, and with Staveley attending another Newcastle final at Wembley, Spurs fans will hope she can do the same for them.
