Micky van de Ven could be out until January but may not need Tottenham surgery – report

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven could be unavailable until January at the earliest, according to The Telegraph.

Journalist Matt Law reported in the newspaper’s online edition (9 November) that while Spurs are optimistic that the 22-year-old will not need surgery, he could still be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Estimates suggest he might not play again this year, however, Spurs are yet to put any official timescale on his return to action having delayed his initial scan.

The Netherlands international pulled up with a hamstring injury during his side’s 4-1 defeat to Chelsea on Monday 6 November and could be seen leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on crutches.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King told Tottenham News:

“It is good news that he might not need surgery, however, it must have been quite a nasty injury for him to have reacted the way that he did.

“You have got to be so careful with an injury like this because if you come back too soon it could happen again.

“I imagine it would be about six weeks before he starts to run again properly because these things can go at the click of a finger. However, I would wait to see what comes out officially and then comment accordingly.

“I don’t think this will affect him in the long term, he is young enough to recover from this and I would imagine he is extremely fit, he is built like an Olympic sprinter who can play football.”
