Micah Richards loses his head at Guglielmo Vicario in ‘ridiculous’ new Tottenham rant

Micah Richards couldn’t fathom what Guglielmo Vicario did in Tottenham’s defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Thomas Frank’s side fell to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at the City Ground, with Callum Hudson-Odoi’s brace and Ibrahim Sangare condemning them to a sixth Premier League defeat of the season.

Vicario played a loose pass to Archie Gray on the edge of Tottenham’s box, which was pounced on by Sangare, who squared the ball to Hudson-Odoi to give Forest the lead.

Vicario has faced scrutiny several times during his Tottenham career as concerns have been raised about his ability when playing out from the back, and Richards was fuming with his role in the opening goal.

Micah Richards slams Guglielmo Vicario’s shocking moment

Frank is also under intense pressure, and he could be heading for the exit door if he doesn’t improve Tottenham’s issues in defence.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Richards couldn’t quite believe what he was seeing at the City Ground on 14 December.

He said: “The ball Vicario gave to Gray is bobbling, then he plays it to his weaker foot. I don’t understand why he plays it to him. He can see the whole picture in front of him, so just get rid of the ball.

“Vicario’s put himself under pressure, and it’s just ridiculous. Just have a bit of patience, a bit of calmness, but he’s so rash, and then Gray gets the blame.”

Vicario was booed by Tottenham fans for another shocking mistake against Fulham and was hounded every time he had the ball at his feet.

Spurs fans have turned on their shot stopper, and there seems to be no way back for the Italian.

Having made 97 appearances for the Lilywhites, this could be his last season in N17, as Frank will look to bring in a goalkeeper that he can trust.

Vicario excelled in Tottenham’s 0-0 draw with Monaco on 22 October, and he has bailed his side out of tricky matches on multiple occasions since arriving from Empoli in 2023.

But ultimately, he has proven time and time again that he is not good enough to represent Spurs.

Tottenham need to prioritise signing a new goalkeeper

Vicario’s decline at Tottenham has been frustrating to watch, and Frank will undoubtedly look at replacements shortly, with Antonin Kinksy waiting for another chance.

Richards added: “I really liked him when he first came to Spurs, but recently he’s been making a few bad errors that have cost them.”

A big criticism of Frank’s style of play is that Spurs are incapable of creating clear-cut chances, and they have struggled to build play up from the back.

This all starts from the goalkeeper, and there is little confidence that Vicario can adapt his game at this stage of his career.

Sunday was another example of his ineptitude with the ball at his feet, and Tottenham should be looking for a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window if they want to avoid another underwhelming season.
