Richards in hysterics as Tottenham gem Maddison leaves Roy Keane red-faced

James Maddison immediately hit out at Roy Keane after his Tottenham side won the Europa League final.

After 17 long years, Tottenham‘s wait for a major trophy ended in Bilbao on Wednesday night, with Ange Postecoglou’s side securing a 1-0 victory over Man United in the Europa League final.

When taking into account the shortcomings they’ve demonstrated domestically, it was imperative that Tottenham ended the season with something to shout home about, and they managed just that.

Brennan Johnson scored the only goal of the game for Spurs, but it was Maddison who was keen to get one up on Keane after the saga that has lasted this season.

Maddison hits back at Keane after Europa League triumph

As a result of the season they have endured domestically, several Tottenham players have come under fire for their own performances, though perhaps none as much so as Maddison.

The 28-year-old has been singled out for criticism by many, including Keane, who has spent the entire season ridiculing him for his celebrations and displays.

However, with Keane on the CBS panel for the game in Bilbao, Maddison took his opportunity to hit back at him in an interview after the game.

Via CBS Sports, Maddison said: “I wasn’t going to do any interview, but I heard it was with Roy Keane,” to which Richards burst out with laughter.

“Madders, can you do the darts sign for us?” Richards asked, to which Maddison obliged, leaving Keane with his head in his hands.

Tottenham have a platform to build from

While their Europa League triumph will be remembered, their potential 17th league finish in the Premier League will be as well.

Spurs need to find somewhat of a balance next season if they are to progress, and as showcased by their run in the Europa League, they have the facilities to do.

For now, celebrations will live on in North London, but everyone at Tottenham will be aware that this is only the start of their journey, and complacency can’t be allowed to creep in.
