Merson gives ‘difficult’ Postecoglou stance as Mourinho Tottenham admission made
Paul Merson believes that Tottenham fans wouldn’t want to go back to the days of having Jose Mourinho in charge despite the recent poor form of Ange Postecoglou’s men.
Spurs are currently 11th in the Premier League and find themselves 11 points adrift of the coveted Champions League spots.
Writing for Sportskeeda in his weekly Premier League predictions (3 January), Merson shared his thoughts on the “difficult” playstyle Postecoglou is trying to instil into his squad.
“The Spurs fans will not have complaints with the football they’re watching though,” he wrote.
“They wouldn’t want to go back to the old days under Antonio Conte or Jose Mourinho because this is at least positive football.
“And when you play this kind of expansive football, it really is difficult to keep it tight at the back.
“If I had to pick one team to watch purely for the sake of entertainment in the Premier League, that would be Spurs – no doubt.”
Ange Postecoglou needs to turn things around at Tottenham as soon as possible
Spurs fans will all likely agree that things need to get better at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as quickly as possible.
While Spurs have had their fair share of injuries this season, which has no doubt hindered their progression in the league, it feels like more could be coming from those who are fit.
Players such as Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison have been the sole bright sparks in the team with the former likely regarded as Tottenham’s best player this term.

Of course, the January window is now open so the Australian could look towards the transfer market in order to bolster his ranks and perhaps go for a second-half-of-the-season turnaround, which, is likely all that Spurs fans want.
However, unless Postecoglou can find some consistent form and lead his team to a fair few wins over the next couple of months, it’ll become increasingly more difficult for Daniel Levy to keep him in his role.
