Mbeumo to Tottenham: Transfer fee, salary and likely shirt number for Brentford star

Bryan Mbeumo tops Tottenham’s transfer targets this summer as Thomas Frank hopes to sign the prolific goal-scorer from his old club Brentford.

Mbeumo, 25, excelled for the Bees in the 2024/2025 season, scoring 20 goals and providing seven assists.

He finished fourth in the Premier League top scorer list, just two goals behind Erling Haaland.

Brennan Johnson occupies the right-wing spot he will fight for. The Welshman was crucial in Spurs’ Europa League victory and was their top scorer with 11 this year.

Tottenham will spend big on Mbeumo

Spurs are ready to pay £70m for Mbeumo, and will hope to beat Man United to his signature. He formed an excellent partnership with Yoane Wissa, who himself scored 19 this season when his club finished 10th.

Brentford agreed a contract worth £45,000 per week for the star winger in 2022, which aimed to keep him at the club for four more years.

The Cameroonian joined the West-London side in 2019 from French second-division outfit Troyes when he was 19.

A fantastic debut season in English football saw the teenager score 15 goals and provide seven assists as Brentford narrowly missed out on promotion to the top division.

Mbeumo expects to quadruple his wages at Tottenham if everything goes to plan. The massive increase could make him the second-highest-paid player at the club, just behind Heung-Min Son, who is likely to be leaving Spurs.

Mbeumo may have to fight for his number at Spurs

Mbeumo proudly wore 19 on his shirt for Brentford this campaign. He may have to change if he joins Tottenham, as Dominic Solanke grabbed the number when he joined last summer.

Solanke didn’t have the debut season he may have liked, suffering injury setbacks, and managed just nine goals in 27 games.

The striker might lose his number and position, as Frank’s key player has proven effective up front for the Bees.

Mbeumo sports 20 on his back for Cameroon, so he could take this to Tottenham. Spurs fans may be getting flashbacks, as Dele Alli famously donned this in his seven seasons in North London.

Frank hopes that the number will be a blessing rather than a curse, as the pair aims to bring good times back to the Lilywhites.
