Manchester City star told ‘to leave’ in favour of Tottenham move

Tottenham will already be drawing up their summer transfer targets, with a move for a fringe player at Manchester City mooted.

If Tottenham are to avoid a repeat of this season’s failures, recruitment in the summer must be done to absolute perfection, with no margin for error.

Daniel Levy will have a decision to make on the future of Ange Postecoglou, but will also have to plan meticulously to ensure that whoever is in the dugout next season has access to players capable of delivering success in North London.

For one of those signings, Spurs may not have to look overly far, with Manchester City urged to sell one of their players to Tottenham.

Jack Grealish told to join Tottenham this summer

Tottenham have already been linked with a move for Jack Grealish, with the former Villa star finding gametime hard to come by under Pep Guardiola this season.

With ambitions of getting back in the England team and playing regular first-team football, Troy Deeney believes that Spurs would be the perfect landing spot for the 29-year-old.

Via talkSPORT (25 March), Deeney said: “I think it’s nailed on that he’s going to leave now. I’ve said this before, I think Pep Guardiola’s one of the best coaches we’ve ever seen. But I don’t think he’s handled the Jack Grealish/Kevin De Bruyne situation well this year at all. I think he’s left them in the cold.

Grealish has struggled for game time at Manchester City.

“He will have to leave, and I don’t think he won’t be short of suitors, but I think now it’s a massive situation for him.

“He may have to lower his expectations in terms of wages and where he’s playing, but you could definitely see him going to somewhere like Spurs playing week in, week out and trying to move them up, but for Jack, it’s about staying fit and playing consistently.”

Grealish has hardly set the world alight for City this season, or even in the past, but he has an undoubted level of ability which could be a shrewd addition to Tottenham, though their chances of signing him likely hinge on whether or not they will have European football next season.

Tottenham would benefit from Grealish signing

Tottenham have lacked quality and creativity this season, two attributes that Grealish has in abundance, though he has not been afforded the gametime to show it at City.

Spurs would be able to offer him that, though, unless they win the Europa League this season, chances of a deal will be minimal.

Focus for now will be on what happens on the pitch, but Tottenham need to have one eye on the summer to ensure that they can get a head start in the transfer window, and ensure that the nightmare from the current campaign isn’t repeated.
