Man United forced into drastic change for Europa League final with Tottenham

Tottenham face Manchester United in a must-win Europa League final match in Bilbao, with the Red Devils forced into a major change before the clash.

Tottenham will compete in a European final for the sixth time on Wednesday (21 May) when they meet Manchester United at the Estadio de San Mamés.

The confrontation will be difficult for Ange Postecoglou, who needs to conjure up a win without James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Bergvall.

While the return of several Manchester United players puts them in a good position ahead of the final, a recent change means United will look a little different than usual.

Man United to play without their traditional kit in Europa League final

UEFA has confirmed that the Red Devils have been forced to change their traditional kit before they take to the pitch at the Sam Mames.

Man United will wear black shorts rather than their traditional white alongside their renowned red shirts and black socks.

Tottenham and United have had abysmal Premier League campaigns

This comes after Tottenham announced that their players will step out in their traditional all-Lilywhite European strip for the showpiece game.

The kit is a continuation of a 64-year tradition that can be traced back to Spurs’ first European Cup as English champions in 1961.

As the official ‘home’ team for the match, Tottenham’s kit choice supersedes United’s.

Europa League final is the last chance for Postecoglou

The confrontation is the final opportunity for Postecoglou to claim silverware at the end of a difficult season and earn a place in next season’s Champions League.

Tottenham have had their worst-ever Premier League campaign under the 59-year-old and could finish 17th after their most recent defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park.

As a result, Postecoglou faces pressure over his future at Spurs, and Daniel Levy has already drawn up a list of candidates to replace him.

While he still may depart even if he triumphs against United, winning Tottenham a European trophy could be enough for Levy to rethink Postecoglou’s future.
