Liverpool v Tottenham: Doctor drops big Trent Alexander-Arnold injury update

Liverpool could win the Premier League against Tottenham on Sunday, although concerns have emerged over Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of kick-off.

Ange Postecoglou and his players are set to take on Liverpool at Anfield on 27 April, with the Reds set to be crowned Premier League champions as long as they avoid defeat.

Postecoglou will be more concerned about the UEFA Europa League, with the first leg of the Lilywhites’ semi-final against Bodø/Glimt to come at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (1 May).

As a result, the Australian is expected to make changes to his Tottenham team.

However, an update on Alexander-Arnold might provide some optimism among the travelling Spurs supporters about securing a rare victory at Anfield.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is unlikely to be fully fit v Tottenham

Spurs have an awful record at Anfield, and based on their form this season, Jamie Carragher has shared a confident prediction from the Reds’ point of view.

It is no surprise that Liverpool are clear favourites to clinch the Premier League title by beating Spurs. However, that doesn’t mean Arne Slot’s side are without their problems ahead of kick-off, as Dr Rajpal Brar shares an update on Alexander-Arnold.

Alexander-Arnold’s stats this season for Liverpool

While speaking exclusively to Liverpool News (24 April), Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said, “He [Alexander-Arnold] had a high ankle sprain, which is also known as a syndesmotic sprain, and it can take over six weeks to recover.

“However, he was back within a month and even played 19 minutes against Leicester. Despite that, I wouldn’t expect him to be near 100 per cent fitness until next season, and I think he’s not yet ready to play the full 90 minutes.“

Liverpool could rest Alexander-Arnold against Tottenham

Considering the seriousness of the injury he suffered and the speed at which he has returned, Alexander-Arnold could start on the bench against Tottenham.

However, the 26-year-old will no doubt be keen to play some part against Tottenham, especially if this is the match which could see Liverpool clinch the title.

Therefore, Alexander-Arnold is likely to play some part at Anfield, even if he doesn’t start. However, this is unlikely to be of too much concern to Postecoglou or his players.

While the Lilywhites would no doubt be keen to win at Anfield and build some momentum heading into the Europa League semi-final, the outcome of this match doesn’t matter too much in the context of Spurs’ season.
