Levy ‘could bring back Pochettino to Tottenham in days’ after events Stateside

Tottenham are looking for a new manager after Ange Postecoglou’s dismissal, and there is a clear frontrunner.

Postecoglou was sacked despite winning the Europa League, as a 17th-place finish in the Premier League was deemed unacceptable.

Thomas Frank is currently the frontrunner to replace the Australian, but if Tottenham refuse to pay his release clause, they could end up looking elsewhere.

Fans want to see Daniel Levy show ambition with the next appointment, and the opportunity to bring back former favourite Mauricio Pochettino may have now opened up.

Pochettino endures disastrous USA form

Pochettino is now managing the USA Men’s National Team, ahead of their home World Cup next summer.

However, the Argentinian is enduring a woeful time, as their form has fallen off dramatically in recent games.

The USMNT have lost their last three games in a row, with a defeat to Turkey on Saturday (7 June) their latest poor result despite taking the lead in the first minute.

Pochettino’s record at Spurs

Pochettino has been linked with a return to Spurs for some time, but his priority has been to stay in his current role. However, their form, as well as the opportunity in North London, could change his stance.

Tottenham could bring Pochettino back

There may never be a better opportunity to bring Pochettino back to Tottenham, where he has unfinished business from his first spell.

Pochettino’s reign was the opposite of Postecoglou’s, as he built a side capable of competing at the top level, but they failed to win any silverware.

Some fans may hold ill feelings towards Pochettino after he joined Chelsea for a season, but his side was arguably Tottenham’s best in Premier League history.

If Spurs look elsewhere now while his stock with the USMNT is still low, they may never be presented with another opportunity to hire him with a vacant opening.

Pochettino’s last reign ended in tears as he was dismissed in November 2019 after a poor start to the season, but this came just months after he led Spurs to the Champions League final.

Given the disastrous appointments that have followed, Tottenham should never have parted ways with Pochettino, who had built a top-quality side with limited resources.

Pochettino may not last in the USA job until the World Cup, and there is no time like the present for Levy to make his move if he intends to go down this road.
