Leeds United ace pens heartfelt message ahead of Tottenham transfer

Daniel Levy is still looking to strengthen Tottenham’s squad this summer.

Levy recognises the need to continue investing in the first team if the Lilywhites are to succeed in his directive of being competitive in all four competitions next season.

The 63-year-old announced that this was one of Thomas Frank’s main objectives, which the Dane reiterated in his first press conference.

However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement at the youth level, as a new player arrives from Leeds United.

Oliver Boast pens emotional post ahead of Spurs move

Tottenham have brought in four senior players so far this window, but have been equally proactive in upgrading their academy squad.

The Lilywhites have recognised the need for players to come through the ranks and have already recruited Farren Doran from Manchester City last month.

Spurs have also signed Oliver Boast from Leeds United, who took to Instagram (20 July) to post a heartfelt message announcing his departure from the Peacocks.

The post read, “After 8 years at Leeds United, it’s now time for me to move on and start a new chapter.

“I’ve been lucky enough to share some amazing moments with great teammates, and the memories we shared will stay with me forever.

“A big thank you to everyone at Leeds who has helped me over the years – I wish the club all the best for the future!”

The 16-year-old centre-forward has followed in Archie Gray’s footsteps and signed for Tottenham, where it is expected he will join the academy.

Boast is highly rated, and had already played for Leeds’ Under-21s last season. However, he was reportedly frustrated with playing second fiddle to Gray’s younger brother, Harry, pushing him to seek a move.

Tottenham need to trust the academy more

Tottenham have put a lot of emphasis on growing their academy, but it is futile if their graduates are rarely afforded a chance to break through the ranks.

Mikey Moore is proving to be an exception, but with over 30 senior players in the squad, youngsters like Will Lankshear and George Abbott, both of whom have impressed in pre-season, are unlikely to get a run out.

Spurs need to strike the right balance to ensure a path is available to their players, as is the case at clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool; otherwise, top talents will no longer wish to join the North Londoners.
