Keys slams Anthony Taylor Tottenham v Chelsea controversy – ‘Mike Dean in VAR?’
Richard Keys has slammed Anthony Taylor after he didn’t send Moises Caicedo off for his challenge on Pape Matar Sarr in the game between Tottenham and Chelsea on Sunday.
The Ecuador international went over the top of the ball with a challenge and put his studs into the ankle of the Spurs midfielder but no further action was taken.
Ange Postecoglou’s men were beaten 4-3 by the Blues in their Premier League clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with Spurs’ goals coming partly as a result of an “embarrassing” performance from Marc Cucurella.
Spurs added another loss to their record straight after their surprise defeat to Bournemouth earlier in the week and now, they sit 11th in the top flight.
“Is Mike Dean in VAR? Same teams. Same ref. Perhaps he didn’t want to cause Antony Taylor any more hassle,” Keys wrote on on X of the Caicedo incident.
“That was a nailed-on red for Caicedo.”
The situation that Keys is alluding to in his tweet happened in 2022 when Christian Romero pulled Cucurella’s hair, and Dean chose not to send Anthony Taylor to the VAR screen as he didn’t want him to have “any more grief” (talkSPORT, August 2023).
Ange Postecoglou needs to get Tottenham firing again
Tottenham have had a rather strange season across all competitions thus far and have now found themselves outside of the top 10 due to their poor form.
Indeed, they’re still only six points away from the top-four spots, but it still feels like Postecoglou’s men should be doing far better.
They’ve won six Premier League games thus far, and now that Son Heung-min is back in action, it feels like there’s surely only better things to come for Spurs.
Dominic Solanke has been a stand-out player for Tottenham recently and without him this season, there’s no knowing how much worse off they’d be.
Of course, we’re still early into the season, and there’s plenty of time for Spurs’ situation to be rectified but if Postecoglou can’t get his men firing once again, it could spell the end of his tenure as candidates are already being sounded out.
