Kane achieved something bigger at Tottenham than winning Champions League – Shearer

Harry Kane failed to win a single trophy during his spell at Tottenham.

The England international did become the Lilywhites’ all-time top scorer and is remembered fondly for his spell in North London, to say the least.

His departure to Bayern Munich came as a massive blow to Spurs but it is safe to say that the 31-year-old has smashed it in the Bundesliga.

Despite not yet winning a trophy, Alan Shearer has picked out one achievement that will mean more than even a Champions League would mean to Kane.

England captain Kane won’t care about Champions League

There is no doubt that the Bayern striker has had an excellent career regardless of the lack of silverware in his trophy cabinet.

With that being said, the Englishman has picked up many personal awards and accolades which will mean a lot to the striker.

These will include his England caps with Kane consistently showing his quality on the international stage since making his debut in 2015.

This saw the forward named as Three Lions captain by Gareth Southgate ahead of the 2018 World Cup which Shearer believes will mean more to him than any trophy.

Speaking on Match of the Day top 10, shared via X (20 March), he said: “People talk about ‘You win this and you win that’. What would you say if I said to you that being named England captain was the biggest and best thing that I would ever have?

“If I had won a European Cup, Champions League, I would have said being England captain was probably the biggest thing that could ever happen to you as an individual.”

Kane is missed at Tottenham

There is no doubt that being England captain is one of the crowning glories of the striker’s career.

Alongside this, being skipper of his boyhood club and top scorer in North London will mean the world and feels like a far cry from where Spurs are right now.

Under Ange Postecoglou, the Lilywhites are seriously struggling this season and miss the leadership and quality of a player like Kane.

The addition of his goals and his ability to galvanise the players around him would certainly be useful alongside the likes of Son Heung-min right now.

It doesn’t feel like a return to N17 is on the cards any time soon as the Englishman looks destined to win a Bundesliga title.

Every fan at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be pleased to see their former number 10 succeed, as much as they may want him back.
