Julian Warren amazed at what Mike Dean told him about Tottenham vs Newcastle controversy – ‘Wow’

Tottenham may have blown their only lucky escape of the game against Newcastle United.

Spurs hosted Newcastle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday, as the Premier League encounter didn’t fail to disappoint for entertainment.

The Lilywhites have been struggling in the league, as have the Magpies, and either side were desperate for a win coming into the game.

Thomas Frank has been under severe pressure at Tottenham, and Joe Willock’s disallowed goal should have been the wake-up call that the Dane needed.

Mike Dean says Joe Willock’s offside goal the ‘closest’ call he’s ever seen

Lucky for Newcastle, they went into the break 1-0 up after Malick Thiaw slotted a rebound into Tottenham‘s net.

Eddie Howe will have been thankful for this, due to Willock’s goal being narrowly ruled out just minutes before the Magpies took the lead.

While speaking about the incident live on Sky Sports News, Mike Dean assessed VAR’s call to overrule Willock’s goal and explained to presenter Julian Warren just how close it was to being onside.

Dean said: “It’s so close. It’s the closest one I’ve ever seen.”

Warren replied: “Wow.”

As seen in the image shared on X above, it was the Newcastle midfielder’s head that was adjudged to be in an offside position.

Thomas Frank is wasting Xavi Simons; here’s why

Frank could be sacked soon, and even if results pick up, it’s hard to see fans getting back onside with the Dane.

One of the main criticisms of his work is the lack of attacking threat that the Lilywhites have posed this season. Tottenham spent a lot of money on Xavi Simons, and has yet to see his full brilliance.

Frank started the Dutchman in a wide position against Newcastle, similar to what he has done in previous games, despite it not working.

The former RB Leipzig man is best through central positions, and he’s surely one of the Tottenham players who would benefit if Frank were to be sacked.

Simons created the most chances for Spurs in the match, and had he been playing through the middle, the Lilywhites could have reaped the rewards in front of goal.
