Jeff Stelling backs Tottenham legend for Premier League job after latest sacking

Wolves have sacked Vitor Pereira after the Portuguese coach led his side to just two points from a possible 30 to start the Premier League season.

One of those points came when Tottenham drew 1-1 with Wolves in September, after Joao Palhinha had equalised late on to avoid embarrassment.

The Premier League has already seen several sackings this season, with Nottingham Forest already on their third manager in just 10 games.

Nottingham Forest sacked Ange Postecoglou after just eight games, with the Australian facing the boot again just months after leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Postecoglou is a contender for the Wolves job, but a former Tottenham player has been touted as a potential rogue option.

Jeff Stelling suggests Robbie Keane for Wolves

Robbie Keane has been linked with the managerial role at Celtic, with Martin O’Neill currently in charge on an interim basis at Celtic Park following the departure of Brendan Rodgers.

The 45-year-old, who scored 122 goals for Tottenham across two different spells at White Hart Lane, is currently plying his trade in charge of Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

The former striker took his first steps into management with ATK, before roles in the coaching staff with Ireland, Middlesbrough and Leeds United.

Keane‘s first role as head coach came with Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he led his side to the Israeli Premier League title before leaving in 2024.

Ferencvaros, who the Irishman joined in January, won the league last season. Jeff Stelling has now suggested that the Wolves job could be next for Keane.

“My suggestion, for what it’s worth,” Stelling told talkSPORT on Monday. “A bit left-field. What about someone like Robbie Keane? Of course, started out at Wolves, he’s been abroad, done his stuff.

“He’s had success at Maccabi Tel Aviv, now he’s having success with Ferencvaros, as well. I’m pretty sure he’s keen to manage in England, particularly in the top flight.

So I’d be looking at someone like that, who wants to come and make an impact. rather than the same old names on the merry-go-round.”

Keane backed Ange Postecoglou to stay at Spurs

Tottenham’s decision to sack Postecoglou after the Australian had lifted the Europa League was met by a variety of reactions.

Many believed the former Celtic boss had been hard done by, while others pointed to the appalling Premier League season.

Keane had called on Postecoglou to be given time. He said: “He’s got a lot of stick, Ange, and to be fair to him, he’s backed it up by his comment that he made about the second season, and he put himself under a lot of pressure, but he’s done it.

“So I think now – give him time. The fans have been desperate for this for a long time – 17 years since we won – give him time, give him the chance to build again, to build again.”

Should Keane return to the Premier League, it will be interesting to see if he is given exactly that – time.
