Jamie O’Hara reacts to what ‘Great’ Tottenham player did v Hoffenheim

Jamie O’Hara was wowed by Brandon Austin as Tottenham limped to a 3-2 victory against Hoffenheim in the Europa League on Thursday.

The former Spurs midfielder showed his appreciation after the keeper made a superb stop, to deny Tom Bischof in the 33rd minute of the PreZero Arena showdown on 23 January.

With the Lilywhites already 2-0 up at the point Austin dived across his line to claw Bischof’s low drive out of the bottom-left corner, the 26-year-old maintained Spurs’ two-goal cushion in an eventual win in Germany.

O’Hara posted on X, writing: “Great save from Austin – he’s alright you know.”

Although Austin did concede twice in the second period as the hosts caused Spurs plenty of nerves in the dying minutes of their clash on the continent, his overall display was one to spark confidence.

Few goalkeepers, regardless of quality, would keep many clean sheets playing in such an attack-minded yet injury-hit side, and with a makeshift defence in front of him, Austin put in an assured performance.

Having been named in the starting XI ahead of Fraser Forster – who has already had his fair share of goalkeeping calamities this season – Austin is becoming a player Ange Postecoglou can depend on.

Left exposed by his defence failing to prevent dangerous efforts across the face of goal for both of Hoffenheim’s goals, Austin’s first-half save to keep Spurs two goals ahead was a standout moment.

The Lilywhites were dominant in the opening 45 minutes barring that glorious opening for Bischof, and by keeping it out, Austin showed Postecoglou that new boy Antonin Kinsky won’t have an easy ride.
