Jamie Carragher pinpoints Tottenham factor that could fail Ange Postecoglou at Nottingham Forest

Ange Postecoglou is set to return to the dugout after leading Tottenham to the Europa League title last season.

Nottingham Forest supporters have been divided by Postecoglou, with many sharing their discontent at the news.

Given how successful Nuno Espirito Santo was at the City Ground, it is understandable why some supporters have their doubts.

Now, Jamie Carragher has shared the key reason why the 60-year-old could come up short in the East Midlands.

Ange Postecoglou ran Tottenham players into the ground

Forest fans will quickly learn about Postecoglou’s ways, and it is sure to be a blistering ride.

Given how the East Midlands club played under Nuno, Stuart Pearce is sceptical about whether Postecoglou is the right fit.

Indeed, that notion is probably fair, given that the two managers played the complete opposite style of football.

However, Evangelos Marinakis is evidently keen to take that monumental gamble in search of a trophy.

While speaking on The Overlap, Carragher has shared another reason why Postecoglou could struggle at the City Ground.

“Do you know the big success for Nottingham Forest under Nuno was, we were looking at this on Monday Night Football, is players didn’t get injured,” he said on 11 September.

“Because of the way they played, they weren’t intense at all, so almost the opposite of Ange, so not as intense, not doing as many sprints, he played the same team every game, sort of week in week out.

“You think of the injuries that they had at Tottenham, if that happens.”

Will Ange Postecoglou be a success at Nottingham Forest?

While injuries could be a key factor for Postecoglou at Forest, the real sticking point will surely be his style of play.

During his time at the City Ground, Nuno built his side to sit in and be compact before springing forward in attack.

As for Postecoglou, he is famed for his single approach philosophy of aggressive pressing and a high defensive line.

That simply will not work to begin with.

If the 60-year-old uses that style of play in his first match against Arsenal, then it could get ugly in North London.

However, if the former Celtic boss drip feeds his philosophy over a longer period of time, then it might just sink in.

Whatever happens, there are all the ingredients at Forest for this to be a spectacular season.
