Jamie Carragher makes strange James Maddison claim at Tottenham
James Maddison has come in for occasional criticism during his time at Tottenham, and this season has been a mixed one for him.
Tottenham have had a dismal domestic campaign, but reached the Europa League semi-finals with a shot at winning the tournament.
Maddison has been in and out of the team at times, but has put up fairly impressive numbers despite not hitting his best form.
There are few Tottenham players who can hold their heads high after the Premier League campaign they have had, but Maddison has now been singled out for praise.

Jamie Carragher names Maddison as Tottenham’s best player
Jamie Carragher has now surprisingly praised Maddison, with the former Liverpool defender labelling the midfielder as Tottenham’s player of the season.
Speaking to GOAL (1 May), Carragher admitted that Spurs were hardly spoilt for choice in picking their best player, but pointed out that Maddison has been productive in front of goal.

“You know what, I’ll give it to Maddison. He’s got a few goals this season.”
Many Spurs fans may disagree, and with good reason, despite the lack of standout candidates for their player of the season award.
Tottenham’s Player of the Season
While Maddison has scored 12 goals in all competitions this season, there are others with more contributions to their names.
Brennan Johnson has scored 17 times despite receiving criticism for his performances, and also has seven assists to his name.
Dominic Solanke has also netted 14 goals this season, with Heung-Min Son also on 11 for the season.
Some may argue that Maddison has not been consistent enough throughout the season to take the accolade, but with no other standout candidate, fans may prefer to give younger players their accolades.
Lucas Bergvall and Pape Matar Sarr have impressed at times in difficult circumstances, as has teenager Archie Gray, who has played out of position for most of the season.
Carragher’s selection of Maddison based on his goal output may therefore be surprising to some, but if the Englishman can help deliver the Europa League, he will suddenly become a hero in North London.
