Jamie Carragher blasts Postecoglou after what he said post Frankfurt v Tottenham

Jamie Carragher has urged Ange Postecoglou’s associates to have a word with him after Tottenham beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 on Thursday.

Spurs put their recent run of form behind them to claim a narrow victory in Frankfurt on 17 April, courtesy of a first-half penalty from Dominic Solanke, thus winning the UEFA Europa League tie 2-1 on aggregate.

While many expected it to be Postecoglou’s last game in charge of Tottenham, the Greek-Australian tactician has proven his doubters wrong by taking the North London giants one step closer to Europa League glory.

Carragher makes Daniel Levy admission after what Postecoglou said

Speaking after the game, Postecoglou suggested that there has unnecessarily been a lot of noise around Tottenham recently.

However, Carragher has insisted that the former Celtic boss is the only reason for that, citing him as the instigator of ‘negative headlines’ about Spurs.

Frankfurt v Spurs, 17 April.

The Sky Sports pundit admitted that Postecoglou has been ‘box office’ for the wrong reasons and believes that his friends must advise him to hold his tongue more often.

He added that Daniel Levy would rather the manager’s actions speak for themselves before suggesting that the players came to his rescue on Thursday.

“If there is one bit of advice those closest to Postecoglou ought to offer, it would be to tone down some of his remarks because his press conferences have become as much of an event as the team’s games”, Carragher wrote in his column on The Telegraph (18 April).

“From that perspective, Postecoglou has been pure box office for the wrong reasons.

“That’s great for all of us working in the media, but not so welcome for Levy and the Spurs fans who want Postecoglou to walk the walk more than talk and talk.

“‘There has been a fair bit of noise around the team’, Postecoglou said after the win, but most of the recent negative headlines have been unnecessarily generated by his remarks.

“On Thursday, the players did all the talking.”

Postecoglou could keep his word at Tottenham

There is no denying that Tottenham have had a nightmare of a season, having lost 17 games in the Premier League so far, and there is a case to be made about Postecoglou being sacked.

However, the manager could still keep his word by leading Spurs to a trophy this season after beating Frankfurt in the Europa League quarter-finals.

The Premier League club could not have asked for a better semi-final tie, as they prepare to face Bodo/Glimt in May.

They could then face Manchester United and Athletic Bilbao in the final.

Despite Spurs’ woes this season, there is no reason why they cannot beat any of those three teams.
