‘Huge’ Daniel Levy exit confirmed at Tottenham, this is why he could have done it

Daniel Levy has finally left Tottenham after being Spurs’ chairman for almost 25 years.

The businessman has overseen plenty of highs and lows at the North London club, with Tottenham’s Europa League victory no doubt top of the list.

However, Levy remained a highly controversial figure, especially when Spurs had tough periods on the pitch.

Last season, Tottenham fans protested against Levy, yet he remained in his post.

Therefore, his departure from Spurs on Thursday no doubt came as a massive shock.

Darren Bent: Daniel Levy may feel he has lost his mojo

Despite the Europa League win, Tottenham were no doubt poor in the 2024/25 campaign, with Spurs finishing 17th in the Premier League table.

With these challenges, Levy struggled to steady the ship, with Tottenham’s domestic performance only getting worse as the campaign went on.

Yet, even when Tottenham sacked Ange Postecoglou, Levy received backlash due to how the saga was handled.

Therefore, when news broke that the chairman had resigned, Darren Bent speculated on talkSPORT that it may be due to his ability in the role declining.

He said: “It’s huge. I never thought I’d see the day that it happened because he has been there for so long.

“The fans have not stopped complaining about him for years, and it felt like he was an immovable object, and he was going to be there for the whole time.

“The fact that he has decided to step down, perhaps he feels that he can’t do the job as well as he once could.

“Maybe he feels the club is going in a different direction than he feels it needs to.

“It is the start of something new, and Spurs fans have wanted this for such a long time. Every time they are going through a bad period, ‘it’s Dan Levy’s fault; he is not investing properly, he’s penny-pinching, he is not buying the best players to help this football club’.

“It’s huge news, but he has done a good job; he has overseen them into one of the best stadiums in the world and one of the best training grounds.

“He’s assembled over the years some really exciting teams, and I know the silverware has been lacking a little bit, but in recent times they have won the Europa League, got themselves into the Champions League, and into a Champions League final all under his watch.

“But Spurs fans want to see more investment, more top players coming through the door.

“He steps down, so it is all about who comes in next”

Daniel Levy will be seen as a success in the long run

While Levy certainly outstayed his welcome at Tottenham, in the long run, he will be seen as a good chairman.

Under his watch, he ensured Spurs remained competitive and built arguably the best football stadium in the world.

Levy now leaves Tottenham with the North London club established inside the ‘big six’ clubs in the Premier League and a Europa League trophy in their cabinet.

Hopefully, this new era at Spurs will build on this and deliver more trophies.
