How media in Senegal reacted to ‘beautiful’ Pape Matar Sarr moment as Tottenham ‘golden boy’ shines

Pape Matar Sarr continues to go from strength to strength for Tottenham and Senegal.

Spurs supporters knew that Sarr would have an excellent season from the second he netted a goal from the halfway line for Tottenham in their win over Arsenal during pre-season.

Since he has had a strong start to the season for the Lilywhites. Alan Shearer praised Sarr’s performance against Manchester City, while he has continuously demonstrated moments of brilliance.

Sarr’s performance for Tottenham against Bournemouth was a step down from his earlier form. But it is still believed he’ll be a key player for Thomas Frank.

It also seems that the midfielder will be just as important for his country as he is for his club this season.

Pape Matar Sarr scores for Senegal

While Sarr has failed to register his first official goal of the season for Tottenham, he’s already on the scoresheet for Senegal.

Senegal took on Sudan in the FIFA World Cup African qualifiers on Friday, 5 September in which Sarr netted in a 2-0 victory.

Reacting to the game, Sene Web on 5 September stated that Sarr’s “beautiful goal” reflected his technically adept and clean performance.

It continued that their “golden boy” was important in allowing Senegal to control the game and was key in the pressing.

Meanwhile, Mo Djamil, a Senegalese fan via X on 5 September, said: “Pape Matar Sarr is in great form, I’m telling you! If he keeps this up, he’ll have a really, really good season.”

Where will Pape Matar Sarr play for Thomas Frank?

The arrival of Xavi Simons at Tottenham has left fans questioning what Sarr’s role will be under Frank moving forward.

The 22-year-old has had more of an advanced role since the start of the season, but could sit deeper in the midfield when playing alongside Simons. The Dutchman enjoys jumping between the left wing and the attacking midfield, which could allow Sarr to push up at times.

But given his red-hot form for Tottenham, the arrival of Simons is not expected to usurp his place in the starting 11.
