Harry Redknapp hits back at what Ange Postecoglou said about Tottenham

Harry Redknapp has hit back at Ange Postecoglou after he said his Tottenham players were “exhausted” after their 3-2 victory over Hoffenheim in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Australian made the claim in his post-match press conference and said that it was “unheard of” to have four or five teenagers in a squad during a non “dead-rubber” game.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (24 January, 07:40am), Redknapp shared his thoughts on what the former Celtic boss said about his team.

“They [Tottenham] had a good side out last night, you look at the 11 who started the game last night and it was a very strong team,” he said.

“You’re going to get injuries for sure and it has affected them, it hasn’t helped them but if you go back to the results earlier in the season, getting beat by [Crystal] Palace, getting beat by Ipswich and they actually had their full team out.

“We keep hearing that [teams are tired] and [then] every time there’s a break, what do they do, the clubs jet off somewhere to play an end-of-season lucrative friendly game, you know money-making games in America or China somewhere so they can’t have it always.”

Ange Postecoglou needs to get things back on track at Tottenham

Tottenham’s Premier League hopes have been pretty much written off due to the poor form that they’ve found themselves in this season.

They currently sit 15th in the table with 16th-placed Everton just four points behind them.

Obviously, this is a major cause for concern but until the Toffees take over Postecoglou’s men, they’re not directly involved in the relegation battle.

However, if they don’t finish the season inside the top 10, they’ll have fallen way below expectations and could end up costing the Australian his job.

Which, to be quite frank, is the way that things seem to be heading at the moment unless the former Celtic boss can pull off a miracle and win the Europa League or even one of the domestic cups.

Only time will tell what the future holds but for now, they just need to build on their victory over Hoffenheim and try to get themselves out of the rut they’re in.
