Harry Kewell reacts to Postecoglou sack news at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou is under serious pressure at Tottenham Hotspur after a horrid season.

Spurs failed to reach the final of either domestic trophy while they currently sit 14th in the Premier League table, which is a long way from where the club wants, and expects, to be.

Postecoglou has pushed an attacking style of play during his tenure in London, but despite being entertaining to watch, it hasn’t led to consistent results.

Fans have showcased their anger toward him as the relationship with Postecoglou has started to become very frosty, as he refused to acknowledge them after their most recent defeat.

Ange Postecoglou has been backed to turn things around

Tottenham are said to be ready to pay £10million to hire Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola, if Daniel Levy decides to pull the trigger.

While a lot of fans and pundits are calling for Postecoglou’s time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to be brought to an end, not everyone has given up on the Australian coach.

Harry Kewell is one person who believes in Postecoglou, and knows first hand what he is capable of from their time working together at Celtic, which remains a brilliant period of his managerial career.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Kewell said: “He’s different, but the fact that he allows you to go and express yourself. There were times when you were in training and you’d want to stop it, but he’d be like, ‘No, let them figure it out because that’s what players do.’

“I love the way that he coached, and I watch him now even at Spurs, and the way he plays the game, I love, just full-out attack.”

Kewell compared Postecoglou’s situation to that of Mikel Arteta when he first joined Arsenal, and he urged Spurs to show the same kind of patience.

“He’s proven, he’s got a track record of winning stuff, and if he’s given time and he’s able to bring his players in and be able to really cement the ideas of what he wants into that team to be able to progress forward.”

Tottenham’s Europa League run will be crucial

There is little for them to play for in the Premier League at this point, but there is a lot of pressure on the team in the Europa League.

Spurs remain in the European competition and will play Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-finals, with the first leg taking place on Thursday night (10 April).

Postecoglou could save his job within that competition if Spurs were to go on and win the entire thing, which they certainly have the quality to go and do.

Levy had set Postecoglou the goal of achieving European football this season, but the club is miles away from that within the Premier League, leaving this as the only option.

Should he fail to guide Tottenham to this trophy then it could end up being the final straw for him as fans want Levy to act.
