Harry Kane in no hurry to sign new Tottenham contract that would see bumper rise on £200,000-a-week deal – report

Tottenham have offered Harry Kane a new deal but their star striker is in no rush to sign fresh terms, the Guardian have reported.

England captain Kane is in the final year of his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and his future has been a hot topic during the transfer window.

Bayern Munich reportedly made an initial bid worth around £60million, with Thomas Tuchel said to be keen to take Kane to the Bundesliga.

Manchester United and Spurs’ London rivals Chelsea have also been linked to his signature in the past, and Spurs are desperate to retain Kane’s service, with Guardian reporters David Hytner and Jacob Steinberg writing that the new offer would be a significant increase on his £200,000-per-week wage.

However, Kane is said to be in little hurry to commit and will not do so until at least after the transfer window if he opts to do so.

Levy in a pickle

Last season was little short of an omnishambles for Tottenham, who even serial winner Antonio Conte could not get a tune out of.

Spurs failed to secure European football, something that will no doubt weigh on the mind of Kane, who turns 30 on July 28.

Chairman Daniel Levy is already not a particularly popular figure among the fanbase, and if their best player was sold now or left on a free next year, his stock would drop even further.

Tottenham's Daniel Levy

From Kane’s point of view, it is entirely understandable he does not want to put pen to paper – or at least not yet.

He is a legend at the club and if he stays the records will continue to tumble. But his reward for loyalty thus far has been the absence of trophies, and those opportunities to win medals will only continue to decrease once he enters his 30s.

It is a tense time for Levy and everyone involved at Spurs.
