Guglielmo Vicario reveals key Thomas Frank change that is already clear at Tottenham
Guglielmo Vicario has opened up on one of the changes that have taken place at Tottenham in the last few months.
The goalkeeper has been central to the promising start that his team have made to the new campaign, as he has already kept three clean sheets from the opening four Premier League games.
Vicario has improved drastically at Spurs since he joined from Empoli back in 2023, and he continues to be a crucial part of the team in N17.
The Lilywhites have enjoyed an excellent start to Thomas Frank’s reign, and one particular change that the new boss has made has brought praise from his shot stopper.

Guglielmo Vicario praises defensive ‘attention’ under Thomas Frank
Frank has received plenty of praise at Tottenham for the way that he has transformed the team in such a short space of time.
The Dane has only had one transfer window to work with the recruitment team during his reign so far, and his side already looks strikingly different from the one that struggled in the Premier League under Ange Postecoglou last term.
The Lilywhites are one of just four teams to have already kept three clean sheets, and that is a huge contrast from the team that had such a poor defensive record last time out.
Stats | Vicario Total | League Rank |
Clean Sheets | 3 | =1st |
Saves | 17 | 1st |
High Claims | 1 | =19th |
Punches | 3 | =6th |
Vicario has now attributed the defensive improvements to an increased level of attention to detail without the ball that has been instilled since Frank’s appointment.
“The ability to recognise the different phases of the game has changed,” the 28-year-old told Gazzetta Dello Sport.
“Understanding when you have to go hard to press high, and when you have to cover the field better. In general, there is more attention to defending the area also because we have more clarity in the different phases without the ball.”

Defensive improvements will be crucial for Tottenham
Frank has been a breath of fresh air for Tottenham so far this season, and the defensive improvements that he has instilled will be invaluable as the season goes on.
Only the three relegated teams and Wolves shipped fewer goals than Spurs’ 65 in the Premier League last season, and that was ultimately what proved to be their downfall.
The Lilywhites will be so much more adept at staying in games in 2025/26, and that should see them pick up valuable points, even on days when their attack isn’t firing as expected.
Vicario is central to that as a reliable gloveman who commands his area well, and it is no exaggeration that the trio of him, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero could have a large say on the team’s fortunes as a whole this term.
