Grim Dejan Kulusevski return timeframe laid out in further Tottenham blow

Tottenham are now facing a crisis in midfield, as their two main options could be out for a very long time.

James Maddison was dealt a cruel blow as he ruptured an ACL, which could keep him out for most of next season.

Dejan Kulusevski would be the main alternative in the position, but he has not been seen since picking up a long-term injury before the Europa League final.

Tottenham would have hoped to welcome the Swede back soon, but there has now been a negative update over his injury.

Kulusevski return delayed as injury timeframe given

Kulusevski was ruled out of the Europa League final, as he underwent surgery on his right Patella on May 14, but there has now been a further setback.

It was anticipated that he would miss a few months of action, but could have recovered over the off-season to return early on in the campaign.

However, X account Physio Scout has now reported that Kulusevski’s total injury absence could even reach 10 months, as it is a complicated recovery process to repair the damage to the knee.

The injury came as a result of a knee-to-knee collision with Marc Guehi, and this could mean he does not return until December.

“Typically, the recovery time for a patella fracture is five-to-eight months after surgery,” the account posted.

“However, the rehabilitation for this injury is complicated and can be extended to eight-to-10 months, as seen in Pedro Neto’s case when he fractured his patella.

“We hypothesise that we won’t see Kulusevski return until at least late November/December, unfortunately.”

This would be a huge blow for Thomas Frank, who is now very limited in his options in attacking midfield.

Tottenham must sign attacking midfielder after Kulusevski blow

This Kulusevski news is gutting for Tottenham, who are now short of options in the number 10 position, and they must now enter the market for a replacement.

Morgan Gibbs-White was targeted before Maddison’s injury, but the deal fell through and the Nottingham Forest star is no longer an option.

Eberechi Eze was also a target, but it now appears that Arsenal are leading the way for his signature.

Tottenham have reportedly bid for Como star Nico Paz, and the 20-year-old could be a superb option in the middle, but would come with relative inexperience and a huge fee.

Pape Matar Sarr was tried as a number 10 against Bayern Munich in Tottenham’s 4-0 defeat, but there was a distinct lack of creativity from midfield, and he cannot be considered the main option there.
