Gabby Agbonlahor makes Tottenham prediction amid Postecoglou pressure

Ange Postecoglou remains under plenty of pressure at Tottenham this season as his side have only the Europa League left to play for this term.

With the Lilywhites sitting 14th in the Premier League table and losing 2-0 away at Fulham ahead of the international break, there has continued to be speculation over the boss’ future.

There have been claims that the outcome of the Europa League, which Spurs are in the quarter-finals of, will make or break Postecoglou’s season – and Gabby Agbonlahor has made his prediction.

Agbonlahor makes Tottenham Europa League claim

Although Tottenham went into the second leg of their Europa League tie against AZ Alkmaar behind by a goal, the Lilywhites were able to bring it back on home turf and progress through.

However, this was not backed up in the Premier League and after falling to defeat at Craven Cottage, the questions over Postecoglou’s future have returned.

Upon a return from international action, the North London outfit have two Premier League matches before facing Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League quarter-finals.

While Tottenham would naturally be the favourites, their form this season has left plenty of worries in the back of supporters’ minds.

That being said, there is a consensus that if Tottenham don’t win the Europa League this season, Daniel Levy will be left with no choice but to sack Postecoglou.

When asked live on talkSPORT [20 March, 6:36am] if he thinks this will be the case, Agbonlahor said: “I do, yes. I feel like he has to win it, especially with how poor the season’s been for Spurs.

“He’s spent a lot of money as well. In the last two years he’s spent £376million. We have to remember that he has spent money and he has got some very good players.

“Yes, injury problems have blighted their season, of course, but there’s no reason they can’t go and win it. Look at the teams left. Manchester United, Rangers and Spurs have all got a chance of winning it.”

Europa League is Postecoglou’s only hope at Tottenham

Although Tottenham have struggled with injuries this term, as pointed out by Agbonlahor, there has to be a line drawn for using this as an excuse. Given just how poor Spurs have been, it cannot be the only factor in their failure.

Tottenham in the Premier League this season.

The main aim at Tottenham is to win a trophy and compete at the top level and, while they have certainly failed on one front this season, bringing a trophy to North London would lift morale at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium massively.

However, when you consider the players in the squad and the money that has been spent, it has to be questioned whether those standards are actually good enough.

After Pochettino’s admission that he would love to return to Tottenham one day, he was pictured with Levy to suggest the chairman may be looking for advice on a new managerial appointment.

If Tottenham do come away from Europe with the glory, it should be enough to save Postecoglou. But if he doesn’t back it up with improved Premier League form next term, Levy will be forced to make a change.
