French media react to Mathys Tel display in U21s Euros amid Tottenham developments
Tottenham loanee Mathys Tel started as France kicked off their U21 EURO campaign on Wednesday.
Gerald Baticle’s young Les Bleus side began their summer tournament with a frustrating goalless draw in Slovakia on 11 June.
Despite the qualities of Wilson Odobert, Geovany Quenda and Mateus Fernandes being available to both sides, neither were able to break the deadlock.
This saw the points shared, with Spurs loan man Tel failing to have an impact before being hooked in the latter stages of the EUROs clash.

With the departure of Ange Postecoglou, it is fair to say that the 20-year-old’s future hangs in the balance with the North London club.
The versatile forward’s loan spell came to an end with him netting just three goals for the Lilywhites throughout his stint away from Bayern Munich.

Before returning to the Bundesliga giants, the former Rennes youngster has linked up with his country’s U21 outfit for the summer.
There were high hopes heading into the tournament for the Spurs attacker, but it is fair to say that he never lived up to those on the opening day.
This saw Equipe France (11 June) describe Tel as “highly anticipated” but ultimately handed him a rating of three out of 10, before outing the forward for a “frustrating performance”.
They weren’t alone in this as outlet, Maxi Foot believed that the Spurs loan ace’s performance was “lacklustre”, particularly in the first half.
A sentiment which was echoed by Foot Mercato, who suggested that one of the Bayern Munich youngsters’ shots summed up France’s “inability to be dangerous”.

Unfortunately, the Frenchman truly failed to live up to the hype after completing a temporary move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
After fending off interest from Manchester United, the forward was meant to be the solution to the problems faced in N17.
This wasn’t the case, and Tel went on to have little impact before the season ended, and he made a return to Bayern Munich.
There is still every chance that he makes a return to Spurs in the summer, but if his France form is anything to go by, it’s looking unlikely.
