Ferdinand expects Postecoglou to stun Tottenham fanbase in coming hours

Ange Postecoglou could make a decision that shocks supporters as Tottenham face Manchester United in the Europa League final.

Postecoglou has had a difficult season at Tottenham, overseeing their worst-ever Premier League campaign that could see them finish 17th after their latest 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park.

However, that will be the last thing on the Australian’s mind as he prepares to face Man United in the Europa League final at the Estadio de San Mamés on Wednesday (21 May).

Postecoglou could make history at the North London club, before then making a decision that reimagines Tottenham for years to come.

Anton Ferdinand urges Postecoglou to resign from Tottenham

Postecoglou continues to face pressure about his future at Tottenham and could still depart from the club even if he lifts the Europa League trophy.

Daniel Levy is already two steps ahead, having reportedly drawn up a long list of candidates to replace the 59-year-old if he is to depart at the end of the season.

However, Ferdinand, speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents (20 May), said if he were Postecoglou, he would resign immediately after winning the Europa League final.

“If I’m Ange, I’m winning it and resigning,” said Ferdinand.

“The way he’s been treated, the fans don’t take to him. He half-goads the fans; they don’t like it.

“The fact that he said ‘I always win a trophy in my second season…’

“If he goes and does it, after the way he’s been treated by the fanbase, I’m going there and winning it, I’ve done what I said I’m gonna do, mic drop, see you later.”

Tottenham will miss Postecoglou if he leaves

While Levy has drawn up a list of replacements, it is thinning by the day and with the summer transfer window approaching, Postecoglou’s successor could have less time to prepare for the new season if a decision is not soon made.

Furthermore, the current Tottenham coach seems to have built a strong relationship with his players, who could struggle to adapt to a new manager.

Spurs’ Premier League campaign is enough to give even the best of the best the sack; however, given the countless injuries and resources heading into the season, it is a wonder that Postecoglou managed to lead his team to a Europa League final.

Now, without James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski and United’s injured players returning by the day, a win in Bilbao may be enough to tip the scales in Postecoglou’s favour.
