Fabrizio Romano sends message to Tottenham star who stunned vs Villarreal
Tottenham bagged their first Champions League win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Villarreal on Tuesday evening.
However, the result was not straightforward as Thomas Frank’s side struggled to create many goal-scoring opportunities in North London.
Spurs were gifted an early goal by Villarreal goalkeeper Luiz Junior, who somehow steered Lucas Bergvall’s cross into his own net.
Despite the lack of quality, Fabrizio Romano heaped praise on one Lilywhites player who has enjoyed an emphatic start to the season.

Fabrizio Romano lauds Lucas Bergvall after Tottenham win
Bergvall delivered an outstanding performance against West Ham as he goes from strength to strength in North London.
The Swede enjoyed a promising first season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium despite a woeful Premier League campaign for the Lilywhites.
Bergvall made history for Spurs against West Ham by contributing a goal and an assist, becoming the second youngest person to do that for the North London club in a Premier League match.
Against Villarreal, the 19-year-old made his Champions League debut and contributed to the only goal of the game.
- Bergvall had 33 touches
- He completed 80 per cent of his chances
- Completed one dribble attempt
The midfielder then shared his joy via Instagram on 17 September: “A dream come true. First Champions League game, at home in front of you and a win. Something I’ve dreamed of since I was a kid.”
Romano is clearly an admirer of Bergvall after his reply: “Baller.”

How far can Lucas Bergvall go in football after Spurs performances?
Considering that Tottenham paid just £8.5million for the teenager, his signing must be regarded as an absolute steal.
While it is early in Bergvall’s career, he has already shown enough quality in his game to suggest he can go to the very top.
Already a Sweden international, he has demonstrated complete composure on the ball as well as vision and an ability to break the lines.
Furthermore, he possesses tenacity in the hub of midfield and has shown that he is willing to do the not-so-glamous side of the game.
It seems that Spurs have a gem on their hands, and they will need to build on their success if they are to retain him in the long term.
