Ex-Spurs Scout: Yves Bissouma must show Tottenham ‘what he is worth’ after difficult few weeks

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent six years as a senior scout at Spurs and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent eight years on Everton’s recruitment team and 11 years scouting at Aston Villa across two different spells.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King believes the upcoming match with Manchester City will be “a big test” for Tottenham ace Yves Bissouma who must now show the club “what he is worth” after a difficult few weeks.

Spurs are set to travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday 3 December with a rather depleted squad, but one player who will be available again is midfielder Bissouma.

The Mali international was unavailable for Spurs’ 2-1 defeat at home against Aston Villa on Sunday 26 November as he was serving a one-match suspension for picking up five yellow cards.

Prior to this, Bissouma was sent off against Luton Town last month and King has told Tottenham News that the 27-year-old has a point to prove.

“I thought he had a great start to the season but he doesn’t seem to be putting his stamp on the game like he was doing throughout the first five or six matches.

“Whether that is because the opposition is getting better, one can only assume, but it will be interesting to see now if he comes straight back into the team.

“I personally think Ange Postecoglou has got to play him, and I think he will play against Manchester City on the weekend, which will be a big test for him.

Yves Bissouma

“He has had a rest, he has missed a game and he is going to come back into the team feeling fresh, so it will put a lot of pressure on him to perform and he is going to have to work really hard in this match against a team of real quality.

“He has to step up now, without any shadow of a doubt, he was stepping up for the first five or six games but then he got caught in a couple of challenges which were bookable and as a result, he has missed a couple of games.

“Now he has got to show the manager and his teammates what he is worth.”

In other Tottenham news, it is time for the club to cut their losses and sell one struggling forward in January.
