Ex-Spurs Scout: Tottenham could be in ‘real trouble’ after Pape Matar Sarr injury development

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent six years as a senior scout at Spurs and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent eight years on Everton’s recruitment team and 11 years scouting at Aston Villa across two different spells.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King believes Tottenham could face “real trouble” in their upcoming match with Manchester City after yet another injury setback.

Spurs travel to defending champions Manchester City on Sunday (3 December) with an already depleted squad, and Ange Postecoglou has now confirmed that Sarr is the latest first-team star who is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Speaking via Spurs’ official X platform (1 December) ahead of the clash at the Etihad Stadium, Postecoglou provided an update on the young midfielder’s fitness after he missed last weekend’s 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa.

Postecoglou said that he is “hoping” to have the 21-year-old back again “over the next couple of weeks,” which means he will certainly not be available for the clash with City.

With this in mind, King has spoken to Tottenham News about just how difficult the match will be following another week of bad news on the injury front in north London.

“I don’t think Sarr is as big a miss as the two central defenders or James Maddison, he is not in that sort of category, but still he has been a regular and now things need to change which will disrupt the team,” he said.

“I’m starting to wonder what is going on at Tottenham, it is such a strange situation, from being unbeaten in 10 to losing three on the bounce all of a sudden with all these injuries.

“Sarr has been part of a winning formula and he might not have been as influential as others, but having lost Rodrigo Bentancur, this is yet another blow.

“I certainly wouldn’t want to be in Postecoglou’s shoes at the moment, because I am not sure how he is going to select his midfield. He could go with a younger academy player perhaps, but that is probably not the wisest idea for a game against Manchester City.

“If City score early, Spurs could be in real trouble.”

In other Tottenham news, one Spurs expert is afraid the development of two Under-21 stars is being hindered.
