Ex-Spurs Scout: Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou must go ‘full strength’ for FA Cup clash v Burnley
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent six years as a senior scout at Spurs and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent eight years on Everton’s recruitment team and 11 years scouting at Aston Villa across two different spells.
Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King believes Ange Postecoglou must go “full strength” in the FA Cup, describing it as the club’s “best opportunity to win a trophy” this season.
Spurs get their 2023/24 FA Cup campaign kicked off with a third-round tie against fellow Premier League side Burnley at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Friday 5 January.
Postecoglou will look to become the man to end a trophy drought which has stretched nearly 16 years in north London.

He failed in his first test of English Cup competition, rotating his squad for a second-round Carabao Cup clash with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Tuesday 29 August, which the hosts won via a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw.
With this in mind, while speaking to Tottenham News, ex-Spurs scout King has warned Postecoglou not to make the same mistake when Vincent Kompany and his players come to town
“Postecoglou needs to go full strength. The FA Cup is a major tournament, which has a great history with Spurs, and I feel, as I am sure the fans do, that this could be the cup for the year, the best opportunity to win a trophy.
“I am still open-minded when it comes to the Premier League title race, but all it takes is six wins in the FA Cup and it is ‘Glory, Glory Tottenham Hotspur.’

“I would play the full first-team, the strongest team available, no question about it. This is not a tournament to mess about in, it is not a Mickey Mouse tournament, it is the FA Cup. People need to realise that this tournament is as important as any, it is a major trophy.”
