Ex-Spurs Scout reveals how Tottenham can beat Liverpool, likely formation and names Klopp new signing who’d be perfect for Postecoglou

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent six years as a senior scout at Spurs and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent eight years on Everton’s recruitment team and 11 years scouting at Aston Villa across two different spells.

Tottenham will host Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday 30 September as they look to continue their unbeaten Premier League start under Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs will be looking for their first win against the Reds since the 2017/18 season, having failed to beat Jurgen Klopp’s men in any of their previous meetings at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium so far.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King has been speaking to Tottenham News ahead of the game and reveals how his former club can win the match, their likely formation and the Liverpool new signing who would be perfect for Postecoglou’s side.

I hope that if everybody is fit he is going to play the same team that got the result at Arsenal. I would be happy if he played the same team, in the same way, as he did against Arsenal – with that intensity. I think this will be the biggest test, Tottenham and their new manager are going to have at home this season.

“Everybody was saying how fantastic Arsenal are in midfield, but I think Tottenham competed alright in midfield with them. I can’t see there being any reason why they couldn’t compete with Liverpool.

“The best way to beat Liverpool is to compete with them all over the pitch. Tottenham are going to face a different intensity here than what they have up until now

Liverpool will be coming for the result, I can’t see it being 0-0. It will be difficult for Spurs, Liverpool are very solid through the back-four, and they have got a good goalkeeper, I have always liked the goalkeeper.

“The regular back-five didn’t play in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. I can only see three, maybe four names who will be playing against Tottenham, from the team that started on Wednesday. I don’t see that game being a disadvantage, because all the main players for Liverpool were rested anyway. Therefore, Jurgen Klopp will have fresh players just like Ange Postecoglou will have fresh players.

“Liverpool have been challenging for leagues and cups far more than Tottenham have. This is always a challenging game for Tottenham, home and away, and they’ll have to be on their game, otherwise Liverpool will turn them over. They’re second in the league, they have made a solid start and I think it is going to be a fresh Liverpool that come to face Tottenham. They will play 4-3-3, that is what they have been playing.

Tottenham

“I am looking forward to a good game, to be honest. I could see a similar result to what Spurs got at Arsenal, but it is all about how they’re going to contain Liverpool because they are a danger away from home, they play good football and Klopp seems to have got them moving in the right way again.

“I thought Alexis Mac Allister was a very good signing for Liverpool, I wouldn’t have minded him playing alongside Maddison at Tottenham.

“For Spurs, this will be the test, will he play 4-2-3-1? He seems to be happy with that, he has got the two holding midfield players, James Maddison who seems to have a central role, the two wide players and Son Heung-min who is always going to be a problem for anyone up top.

It will be a good open game, and I think a score draw is the likely result.

Ex-Spurs scout prediction – 2-2
