Ex-Spurs Scout: ‘Excellent’ Tottenham ace Destiny Udogie could be set for a position change

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent six years as a senior scout at Spurs and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent eight years on Everton’s recruitment team and 11 years scouting at Aston Villa across two different spells.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King believes Tottenham left-back Destiny Udogie is an “excellent” player who has the attacking quality to one day play further forward.

Udogie scored his first goal for the club in a 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday 10 December.

He celebrated the goal and win in style, as Spurs announced a couple of days later via their official X platform (12 December) that the Itallian had signed a contract extension in north London, keeping him with the club until 2030.

Udogie’s qualities going forward have been there for all to see since his Premier League debut, and while speaking to Tottenham News, King suggested that he has the potential to become a top player and could perhaps move further up the pitch in the future.

“That was very good business from the club. From the first time that I saw him play, I thought that he looked like a good player. He is still young, and a bit impetuous at times, but he is a very good player,” he said.

“I like him, he gets forward, he is strong, his tackling could do with some work because he does fly in at times, but he has plenty of time to work on those things, he is only 21 years old. This was certainly a great move from the club.

“As long as he keeps doing what he is doing, he will be alright. Both of Tottenham’s two full-backs are excellent, the amount of times they get into the opposition’s final third, they must be on the level of Kyle Walker at Manchester City.

“Udogie has proven to me that he can become a really good left-back, or perhaps even a left-sided midfield player one day.”

In other Tottenham news, one pundit has suggested Daniel Levy must come to a compromise after a recent multi-million snub.
